I've always wanted a little carrying case to put my prized 45s in, yet they're kinda hard to come by. It's even harder to find them in good condition.Which was especially the case here. This sad looking, torn up box was begging to be given new life and loved.
I mean really though, this thing was looking ROUGH. It's basically just a heavy cardboard box with hinges and a latch. Speaking of the hinges, those things are the devil. They're too strong for such a weak material and it actually caused the back corners of the lid to split. No likey.
First step to making this thing a lot more lovable was to repair it. I busted out my school glue and filled in the holes in the bottom corners, then did the same to the splits in the lid. It worked. A little bit. More like not even at all. The repairs to the splits in the lid lasted all of 5 minutes. Time for something stronger then. HOT GLUE IS A GODSEND. It was strong enough to seal it and bond it back together.
So after I made sure it wasn't going to fall apart I addressed the issue of how awful and rough the surface of it was. Took a piece of sandpaper to it and sanded it down just a touch, too much and it would've made it fuzzy. Yuck.
After all that jazz I busted out some white paint to prime it. (*Sidenote: white paint is not the same thing as primer and if I had listened to my trusted paint source I would've known that. You win some you lose some) I did 2 coats to be on the safe side, letting them dry in between.
(I totally forgot to take a picture of it when it was white)
There was an issue with the handle that I feel I should mention, you see this thing called gravity exists and it doesn't like me. This handle would not obey me and kept trying (and succeeding) to fall over onto the wet paint.
Whatevs, I just painted it some more to try to fill in. There wasn't a way to take the handle off or I would've done that instead. My solution to this problem? A TOOTHPICK. Don't laugh, I'm serious.
But it was still a little boring. What next? Oh yeah I have a lot of artist friends I bet one of them would like to play with it. So I took it to my friend Cierra (she's incredible you guys) and let her have her way with it. I told her to put whatever she wanted on it. Let me just tell you, I was not disappointed. She did a way better job than I would've.
Doesn't it look amazing?! I'm so happy with it. I love it beyond compare and it is one of my most treasured possessions. You know you're jealous.
